Making the most of your company’s holiday party

The holidays are a time of sharing, joy, company parties and the sharing of joyful beverages at company parties. If you've had your eye on that sweet honey in the office for a while now, this is the time to act.

First of all, everyone's in a good mood. You're not working, and the boss man is buying the booze. Did I mention there's alcoholic beverages? You can buy her a drink and not even have to pay!

This is also the perfect time because you can come out of your shell, if you're known as the quiet guy on the third floor. Or, if you're known to hit the pub and mix it up, you can show her what she's been missing at happy hour. Either way, put on a smile, have some fun and make your move. You guys can date for at least a couple months before HR calls you in to ask about your relationship. However, a few words of caution …

There are likely to be cameras -- and yes, they are high enough resolution to show your eyes looking down Ms. Lowcut's shirt.

Be forewarned that any hooking up that happens at this party will lead to endless gossip around the water cooler and could negatively affect your career. Make sure you'll be happy to be known as that guy before sucking face with Ms. Low-cut in the closet -- and don't be surprised if "the incident" gets a mention on Facebook.

If one of you is a superior to the other, look out. If you don't know whether you're at the same level, look out even more. It could be a trap.

With that in mind, live it up. Enjoy (and be) the party! After all, you still need a date for New Year's Eve!

Well Jonathan, although I agree with you to some extent, I must say that several researches have been done and show that women think they're most likely to meet a guy at the office. They're open to it. Now let's talk some experience: I've been meeting women at work for 5 years now, with several companies. None of them got me into trouble and no company fired me, it's just the way you do it that matters. I've found "the office" to be the perfect place for getting phone numbers, facebook profiles, etc. and leaving all the dating and physical stuff for a date outside of work. That way your and her reputation are safe, because no one can prove a darn thing. If you decide to go for it at work though, there will always be gossip. I know at least 10 guys and girls that got fired for it. But if you get the number at work and the date outside of work? Man, my colleagues only say I have a lot of female friends at work (because all kinds of women walk by and greet me), if only they knew! You have to mutually agree upon it though: no job danger, outside of work mostly. It hasn't failed me yet, and I've met around... well, let's just say a lot of women. Be forewarned as well that when you try to hook up with a woman, make sure she's interested! She may already be giving you 10 clues she's just not that into you! Cheers! -- Michelle
